How do I find out who my current energy supplier is?
For electricity, call the Meter Point Administration Service on 0870 608 1524 or ask your regional network operator; for gas, use Find My Supplier or the Meter Number Helpline on the same number. Both will confirm the registered supplier and give you the MPAN or MPRN for the site, which is what any accurate quote starts with.

Electricity
Every supply point has an MPAN, and the industry database knows who is registered to it. The Meter Point Administration Service, run by your regional distribution network operator, will confirm the supplier and the MPAN from the address. You will need to show a connection to the property.
Gas
The equivalent for gas is the MPRN, held on the national gas register. Find My Supplier and the Meter Number Helpline will return the MPRN and the registered supplier from the postcode and address.
The quicker routes
- Any recent bill, even one addressed to a previous occupier.
- The meter itself — many carry a supplier sticker, though these go out of date.
- Bank statements — the direct debit tells you who has been paid.
- Ask us. Confirming a supply and its numbers is routine for us and takes a phone call; email info@utilitiesms.co.uk with the site address.
Why it matters more than it sounds
Until the supplier and the supply numbers are established, nobody can price your contract accurately, you cannot check whether you are on a deemed rate at 35–45p per kWh, and you cannot serve notice. It is the first step in almost every energy problem, which is why it is worth doing properly once and writing the numbers down.
Ask an energy specialist
If your question is not answered above, send it to us. A specialist answers personally, normally within one working day. No sales call, no obligation — and if the answer is "your deal is fine", that is what you will get.
Want this checked against your own bill?
Email a recent bill to info@utilitiesms.co.uk and a specialist will check your rates, VAT, levies and contract end date against the live market — free, usually the same working day. If your deal is already good, we will tell you to keep it.
