Get your business energy bill audited — free

The straight answer

Email one recent bill to info@utilitiesms.co.uk and we will audit it free of charge: your unit rate against the live market, your standing charge, whether you are on the right VAT rate, whether you should be paying Climate Change Levy, capacity charges if you have a half-hourly meter, and your contract end date. You get a plain-English verdict, usually the same working day. If your deal is already good, we tell you to keep it.

What we check on your bill

CheckWhat we are looking for
Unit rateYour pence-per-kWh against what the live market offers a business of your size and meter type today. Out-of-contract and deemed rates commonly run 35–45p/kWh when new fixed deals are 22–30p.
Standing chargeWhether the daily charge is in line for your meter type — and whether a different rate structure would suit your usage shape better.
VAT rateThousands of eligible organisations pay 20% when they qualify for 5%. Low-usage sites, charities and premises with significant domestic use can reclaim up to four years of overpaid VAT.
Climate Change LevyIf you qualify for reduced VAT you should not be paying CCL either — currently 0.801p on every kWh.
Capacity (kVA)Half-hourly supplies pay for reserved capacity. If your maximum demand never gets near your agreed kVA, you are paying for headroom you never use.
Contract end dateThe single most valuable number on the bill. We diarise it, and your notice window, so you are never rolled onto expensive rates again.
Billing errorsEstimated reads stacking up, wrong meter details, duplicated charges — we validate the arithmetic, not just the rates.

What do you need to send?

One recent bill — a PDF, a photo or a scan is fine. It carries everything we need: your meter numbers, rates, usage and (on most bills) your contract end date. A renewal letter is just as good. Nothing else is required to start, though an annual statement sharpens the numbers.

What happens after the audit?

  1. You get the verdict in plain English. What you are paying, what the market would charge, and what each finding is worth in pounds per year.
  2. If money is being left on the table, we price your exact meters across our 57-supplier panel and show you the options side by side. Whether you act on them is entirely your call — no hard sell.
  3. If your deal is already competitive, we say so. An honest “keep it” costs us a commission and earns your next renewal.

Why is it free?

If you eventually take a contract through us, the supplier you choose pays us a commission, typically built into the unit rate — and we disclose it before you sign. The audit itself carries no charge and no obligation, whatever you decide. Details on how we are paid.

Send us your bill

A PDF or a photo of a recent bill is enough — front page at minimum, all pages if you have them. A specialist reads it personally and comes back to you, normally within one working day. There is no charge and no obligation to do anything with what we find.

How should we send you the audit?

We use your bill to carry out the audit and to reply to you, and for nothing else. Files are stored securely and deleted after 90 days unless you become a customer. We never pass your details to a supplier without your say-so. See our privacy notice.

Common questions

Is the bill audit really free?

Yes. There is no charge and no obligation. If you later switch through us, the supplier you choose pays us a disclosed commission — the audit costs you nothing either way.

What if my current deal is actually good?

We tell you to keep it. Roughly one in five audits ends exactly that way, and an honest answer is the whole point of the service.

How long does the audit take?

Standard (non-half-hourly) bills are usually turned around the same working day. Half-hourly and multi-site portfolios take a little longer because we work from your actual consumption data.

Do I need to be near my renewal date?

No. VAT, CCL and capacity findings can be corrected mid-contract, and knowing your end date early is exactly how you avoid a rushed renewal later.

Can my accountant or agent send the bill for me?

Yes — copy them in or have them email it directly. For anything beyond the audit itself, a simple letter of authority lets us deal with your supplier on your behalf.
