Can I transfer my energy contract to new premises?
Not directly — a contract belongs to the meter, so it does not travel with you. What suppliers will often do is set up a new contract at the new site on similar terms and waive or reduce the termination fee at the old one, particularly if you are staying with them. Ask before you sign anything else.

What actually happens when you move
The old site: your contract continues until you complete a change of tenancy, at which point the supplier closes the account and may apply a termination fee for the unexpired term. The new site: you arrive on a deemed contract with whoever supplies it, at 35–45p per kWh-type rates, until you agree something better.
The conversation worth having
Call your current supplier before the move and ask three things:
- Will you waive or reduce the termination fee at the old site if I contract with you at the new one?
- What can you offer at the new site, priced properly, for a start date matching my occupation date?
- Can the new contract start on that date, so I never sit on a deemed rate?
Suppliers keep customers this way and often say yes. But their offer at the new site should still be tested against the market before you accept it — a waived fee is not worth much if the new rate is a long way above 22–30p per kWh.
If you are keeping both sites
Nothing changes at the old site, and you simply need a contract at the new one. Consider timing the new contract's end date to line up with the old one, so a future renewal is a single exercise rather than two.
The expensive mistake
Agreeing a contract at the new premises before you know your occupation date. If the start date and the occupation date do not match, you either pay deemed rates in the gap or pay for a supply you are not using.
